New Delhi: In a dramatic sequence of events, the Delhi Police on Saturday arrested YouTuber Salim Wastik, who was absconding in an over three-decade-old kidnapping and murder case and had been living under a concealed identity.
According to sources, Wastik was arrested by a team of Delhi Police from his Loni residence in Ghaziabad today morning.

The case dates back to January 20, 1995 when Sandeep Bansal, the 13-year-old son of a businessman from Northeast Delhi, was kidnapped. Following the abduction, the kidnappers made a phone call demanding a ransom of Rs 30,000 and threatened to kill the boy if the ransom was not paid.
During the police investigation conducted at the time, suspicion fell upon Salim, employed as a martial arts instructor at Sandeep Bansal's school at the time. Salim was arrested by the police in 1995, and on his disclosure, the body of the businessman's son was recovered.
The case proceeded in court for two years, and in 1997, the court sentenced Salim to life imprisonment. Three years later, in the year 2000, after securing interim bail from the Delhi High Court, Salim absconded. He subsequently lived under a false identity, constantly changing his hideouts across Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

It is learnt that Salim's original full name was Salim Khan. He managed to have himself officially declared deceased in order to mislead the courts and the police, and thereafter began living in various regions under a new identity—that of Salim Wastik—while frequently changing his residence. Sometime after 2022, Wastik moved to Loni. He started a clothing business and subsequently began uploading photos and videos on YouTube, presenting himself as a Muslim figure.
