Student Of IIM, Sirmaur In Himachal Pradesh, Dies Of Suspected Suicide

Sirmaur: A 19-year-old student of IIM, Sirmaur in Himachal Pradesh, allegedly died by suicide on Friday.

The deceased, a resident of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, was a third year student of Bachelor of Management Studies and his body was found at the hostel of the new campus of IIM, Sirmaur at Dhulkuan.

According to police, the student's father called the hostel warden and reported that his son was not answering his call. The hostel staff then entered the student's room through the window and found him hanging from the ceiling fan. The staff rushed the student to Paonta Sahib Civil Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from Majra police rushed to the spot. Police said no suicide note was recovered from the student's room. Police seized the student's mobile phone and laptop and initiated an investigation. Both devices are locked, and the police are conducting necessary technical investigations. The incident was reported to the police by Hukam Chand, administrative officer of IIM Dhaula Kuan.

SP, Sirmaur NS Negi confirmed the case and said that the police are investigating all aspects. "Preliminary investigations suggest suicide. However, the exact cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the incident will only be known after a detailed investigation," he said.

The SP said the police have taken the body into custody and placed it in the mortuary of Civil Hospital Paonta Sahib. A postmortem will be conducted on Saturday after the deceased's family arrives at Sirmaur. "Police are examining the student's mobile phone and laptop", he said.
