India-Pakistan Ceasefire : 'Breach Of Understanding, Indian Armed Forces Giving Appropriate Response To Violations'

BSF Sub-Inspector Md Imteyaz made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation on May 10, 2025, during cross-border firing along the International Boundary in RS Pura area, Jammu. The White Knight Corps of the Indian Army informed that a suspicious movement was noticed near the periphery of Nagrota military station. "On noticing suspicious movement near the perimeter, alert sentry issued a challenge, leading to a brief exchange of fire with the suspect. Sentry sustained minor injury. Search operations are underway to track the intruder(s)," it said.

During a special briefing late Saturday evening, India's foreign secretary Vikram Misri said, "For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan. This is a breach of the understanding arrived at earlier today. The Armed Forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations and we take very very serious note of these violations. We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility. The Armed Forces are maintaining a strong vigil on the situation. They have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations of the border along the International Border as well as the Line of Control."

Sharing the development, MoS Harsh Sanghavi stated, "Several drones have been spotted in the Kutch district. A complete blackout will be implemented now. Please stay safe, Don’t panic."

An hour after Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri officially announced about ceasefire between India and Pakistan, J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah expressed shock over alleged violations again. "What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!," he tweeted.

Special briefing by the Ministry of Defence on Operation Sindoor: Commodore Raghu R Nair, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh briefed the media this evening on Operation Sindoor and the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

Commodore Nair said an understanding had been reached between India and Pakistan to stop all military activities at sea, in the air and on the land. The Indian Navy, Army and Air Force have been instructed to adhere to this understanding, he said.

"Since the tragic events at Pahalgam, you are aware that our responses have been measured and very responsible. Details of these have been shared with you over the past few days through our various Press Briefings. What has also happened is that there is a significant amount of misinformation that is being undertaken from the other side. And as a professional military organization, we thought it is also our duty to dispel those misinformation aspects, as also state the facts of the case as they stand," he said.

"Whilst we will be adhering to the understanding that has been reached today, we remain fully prepared and ever vigilant and committed to defending the sovereignty and integrity of the motherland. Every misadventure by Pakistan has been met with strength, and every future escalation will invite a decisive response. We remain fully operationally ready to launch whatever operations may be required in defence of the nation," he said.

During the briefing, Colonel Qureshi read out a statement in Hindi, followed by its English version by Wing Commander Singh.

• Several attempts were made by Pakistan to spread a misinformation campaign, as we have seen for the last few days. There were attempts made to say that our S-400 at a northern base was destroyed, which was completely false, and that it was destroyed by a JF-17. It was false information.
• Also that the BrahMos installation was attacked and it was destroyed was false. The destruction of airfields at Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Bhuj, Naliya etc. was also a false claim.
• There was a certain different way of miscampaigning that Pakistan conducted by its Press Conferences, which was conducted in a manner which was completely misleading and devoid of facts.
• Pakistan has been spreading fabricated allegations that the Indian Armed Forces have targeted mosques. Let us make this very clear here that India is a secular nation and the Indian Armed Forces are a reflection of our constitutional values. We hold every place of worship of all faiths in the highest regard. Our operations have been aimed exclusively at terrorist camps and facilities being used for anti-India activities. No religious sites, I repeat, no religious sites have been targeted by the Indian Armed Forces.
• Over the past few days, as we have seen, Pakistan has suffered very heavy and unsustainable losses after it has given us an unprovoked attack on our installations. It has suffered losses in both land and air. There has been extensive damage to the crucial Pakistani airbases like Skardu, Sargodha, Jacobabad and Bholari. In addition, a loss of AD weapon systems and Radars made the defence of Pakistani airspace untenable.
• Across the Line of Control, extensive and precise damage to military infrastructure and command control centres and logistic installations, in addition to that, two military personnel, had led to a complete breakdown of its defensive and offensive capability and also Pakistani morale.

Shortly after India and Pakistan achieved an understanding on stopping military hostilities, PM Narendra Modi chaired a meeting at his residence at 7 LKM in New Delhi. EAM Jaishankar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, three service chiefs, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, along with other top officials, were present in the meeting. Earlier in the day, PM Modi had chaired a meeting with the Defence Minister, CDS and Armed Forces Chiefs.

Shortly after India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire today, the Ministry of External Affairs said the stoppage of firing and military action was worked out directly between the two countries.

"@MEAIndia announces that stoppage of firing & military action between India and Pakistan was worked out directly between the two countries. The Pak DGMO initiated the call this afternoon after which discussions took place and understanding reached. There is no decision to hold talks on any other issue at any other place," read a post by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Earlier today, US President Donald Trump said India and Pakistan had agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire "after a long night of talks mediated by the United States".

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed today that both countries had agreed to stop all military action. "India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so," the EAM said in a post on X.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Also Confirms Ceasefire: "Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!" Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said in a post on X.

"The Director General Military Operations Pakistan, called the Director General Military Operations in India at 3.35 pm today, and it was agreed between them that the two sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in air and sea with effect from 5 pm Indian time today. Instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this. The Director Generals of both countries will talk again on May 12 1200 hrs," Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said in a brief statement at the special briefing on India-Pakistan tensions today.

India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday. "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and great intelligence. Thank you for your attention to the matter.

The Congress is unhappy that BJP was playing politics over the response to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism at a time when the main opposition party had fully supported the Modi government and the Indian armed forces, showing a national resolve.

“It is very unfortunate that the BJP was trying to look for an opportunity in a national crisis. This is a time for a national strategy to counter Pakistan, but the saffron party is trying to do politics. We believe that all the central governments in the past always had national interest, security and sovereignty as their priority. The Punjab higher education department has issued directions to all the universities and colleges in the state to ensure the safety and welfare of students and not force anyone to leave the institutions amid serious tensions between India and Pakistan.

Punjab Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, in a post on his X handle today, said: “In light of the prevailing situation, all universities & colleges across the State are directed to ensure student safety. No student shall be forced to leave campus if unable or unwilling due to safety, transport, or personal reasons. Institutions must provide food, shelter & care till the last student remains. Exams must not be a reason to compel stay. No academic penalty for those returning home—rescheduling or alternatives must be provided.” Read More...

Amid the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, at least 60 domestic flights to and from the Delhi airport were cancelled on Saturday, PTI reported, quoting a source. Security measures have been beefed up, and at least 32 airports in northern and western parts of the country have been temporarily shut as the military conflict between India and Pakistan has intensified.

The source said 30 domestic departures and 30 arrivals were cancelled at the Delhi airport from 5.00 am to 2.30 pm. On Friday, 138 flights to and from the Delhi airport were cancelled by various airlines. There have been multiple flight cancellations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the last few days.

In a post on X on Saturday, DIAL said airport operations continue as normal. “However, due to evolving airspace conditions and enhanced security measures as directed by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, some flight schedules may be impacted and security processing times may take longer,” it said. Passengers have also been advised to arrive early to accommodate potential delays at security checks. Further, DIAL has requested passengers to cooperate with airline and security staff for smooth facilitation.

India has decided that any future act of terror will be considered an Act of War against India and will be responded accordingly, top sources said on Saturday. This comes amid a serious worsening of ties between India and Pakistan against the backdrop of the April 22 attack in Pahalgam in which 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were killed by Pakistan-based terrorists.

Pakistan on Saturday said it will consider de-escalation if India stops further attacks, as the militaries of the two countries targeted each other's installations, further escalating tensions. "Pakistan will consider de-escalation if India stops further attacks. However, if India launches any further strikes, our response will follow," Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar told Geo News after he spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Dar's statement, echoed by Information Minister Atta Tarar, came as the Indian and Pakistani militaries targeted each other's installations using missiles in the last more than 12 hours, further escalating the already tense conflict situation.

In the conversation with Dar, Rubio “reiterated that both parties must find ways to de-escalate the current situation and re-establish direct communication to avoid miscalculation,” the State Department said in a statement early Saturday.

Rubio, who also spoke to Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, "offered US assistance in starting constructive talks in order to avoid future conflicts." China also "strongly" urged India and Pakistan to exercise calm and restraint and return to the track of peaceful settlement. "Pakistan had no choice, so our civil military leadership made the decision following the attack on Nur Khan Air Base. No more patience. We are just giving them a response," Dar said.

"The action that the Pakistan civil military leadership has taken is proportionate. Many more actions can be taken, and we are ready for that, but this is the minimum action being taken just now, which will be continued for a while,” he said.

"This operation that we started today will all end in some way. It all depends on what India wants,” he reiterated. Information Minister Tarar told the BBC that de-escalation is in the hands of India. “It is in the hands of India... If India de-escalates (we will follow),” Tarar said when asked if Pakistan will de-escalate.

Tarar added that Pakistani troops are deployed at the borders in response to India's action. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has met President Asif Ali Zardari and briefed him about India’s "aggression and (the) effective response being given to India by Pakistan form of Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos," said a statement from the president's office. Eight BSF personnel were injured in Pakistani shelling in RS Pura of the Jammu region, PTI reported on Saturday, quoting officials. This follows after at least five civilians, including the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) of Rajouri, Raj Kumar Thapa, lost their lives in Pakistani shelling early Saturday.

At least 20 people have been killed in Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu and Baramulla sectors in the past four days after Indian armed forces struck nine terrorist infrastructure targets across the border on May 7 in retaliation for last month’s Pahalgam terror attack. While 12 civilians were killed in Poonch on Wednesday, two others were killed in Uri and Poonch on Friday.

Amid serious armed confrontations between India and Pakistan involving missiles, jets and drones, the administration in Punjab's Ludhiana district issued a red alert at 2.07 pm today, asking all residents to stay indoors. However, 39 minutes later, at 2.46 pm, it said the red alert was over. "Red alert is OVER Green. No need to panic. Time - 2:46 pm, 10/5/2025," DC Ludhiana posted on the official X handle.

The administration also banned the use of inverters, generators and other power backup systems during blackouts in the district under section 163 of Bhartiya Nagrik Surakhsha Sanhita 2023. "A total ban is imposed on the use of investors, generators, and any other power backup systems used for outdoor lights, billboards, street lights, etc., and on the use of solar lights during blackout operations in district Ludhiana until further orders," the order read.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and chiefs of the Indian Armed Forces at his residence at 7, LKM in the national capital today. The meeting took place following India's strikes at four airbases in Pakistan in the early hours of Saturday in reply to Pakistan's attack on 26 Indian locations.

"A high-level meeting was chaired by PM Narendra Modi at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. Those who attended the meeting included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, CDS General Anil Chauhan, armed forces chiefs and senior officials," the PMO posted on X.

In a move aimed at increasing security at civil airports across India, the Director General of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has issued an Official Memorandum dated May 9, temporarily expanding the role of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

According to it, CISF will take over additional responsibilities related to the security of cargo operations and the In-line Hold Baggage Screening System (ILHBSS), in response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead.

Shortly after the memorandum was issued, CISF said it has resumed oversight over cargo and baggage operations. "CISF will oversee operations and the Security staff of airport operators for ILHBSS. The directives also authorise CISF personnel to perform random checks and oversee access control to these critical facilities," it said.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday said he had a conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio this morning amid an escalation of the already serious confrontations between India and Pakistan.

The phone conversation between Jaishankar and Rubio came as Indian and Pakistani militaries targeted each other's installations, escalating the already serious confrontations. "Had a conversation with US @SecRubio this morning. India's approach has always been measured and responsible and remains so," Jaishankar said in a social media post.

The US State Department said Rubio emphasised that both sides need to identify methods to de-escalate and re-establish direct communication to avoid miscalculation. "He further proposed US support in facilitating productive discussions to avert future disputes," State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, along with Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, addressed the MEA's special briefing this morning on Day 4 of Operation Sindoor. Here are some of the key inputs they shared on what transpired during the last 12 hours, as far as the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions are concerned:

The activities from Pakistan over the last 2-3 days have been escalatory and provocative in nature. Pakistani actions that have constituted provocation and escalation. "In response, and I repeat, in response, India has defended and reacted in a responsible and measured fashion to these provocations and these escalations by the Pakistani side," Misri said.

• The Pakistan Army continued its aggressive activities all across the Western Front, targeting Indian military infrastructure using UCAV drones, long-range weapons, loitering munitions and fighter aircraft. There were also drone intrusions and shelling with heavy-calibre weapons along the LoC. Air intrusion attempts were made at more than 26 locations from Srinagar to Nalia along the International Border and LoC.
• Indian Armed Forces successfully neutralised most of the threats. Yet, the air force stations at Udhampur, Pathankot, Adampur and Bhuj, Bhatinda station suffered heavy losses in equipment and personnel.
• I would also like to mention that Pakistan attempted to hit an airbase station in Punjab by using a high-speed missile at 1:40 am. In a reprehensible and unprofessional act, Pakistan also targeted medical centres and school premises at the air force bases of Srinagar, Avantipur and Udhampur, thereby once again exposing its irresponsible tendency to attack civil infrastructure.
• After Pakistan's deliberate targeting of military installations, Indian armed forces launched a swift and well-planned counter-attack, selectively targeting technical installations, command and control centres, radar sites and ammunition depots. Pak military installations at Rafiqui, Murid, Chaklala, Rahmiyar Khan, Sukkur, Western were hit by air-launched precision weapons and fighter jets.
• Radar site at Pasur and aviation base at Sialkot were also targeted with precision ammunition. During these operations, India ensured minimum collateral damage. What was a matter of concern was that Pakistan misused international air routes by using civilian aircraft flying from Lahore to conceal its activities. Such moves forced Indian air defence machinery to act with utmost restraint while ensuring civilian safety.
• Pakistan also resorted to misinformation and spread false claims on social media about the destruction of S-400 system at Adampur, airfields at Suratgarh and Sirsa, BrahMos base at Nagrota, artillery positions at Dehragiri and forward ammunition depots at Chandigarh. India completely rejects these false narratives.
• Pakistan made several attempts of drone intrusion and heavy artillery shelling along the LoC. Heavy shelling of artillery, mortars and light weapons continued in Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri and Akhnoor sectors. The Indian Army retaliated effectively and inflicted heavy casualties on the Pakistan Army.
• The deployment of troops in the forward areas of the Pakistan Army is seen increasing, which indicates an intent to further aggravate the situation. The Indian Armed Forces are in a state of full operational readiness.
• So far all hostile actions have been effectively countered and appropriately responded to. The Indian Armed Forces reiterate that they do not want escalation of tensions, provided Pakistan also behaves in the same manner. Finally, I would like to show you some videos where Indian Army weapons are seen destroying Pak assets on the LoC.

• Pakistani claims about activities that they have undertaken continue to be heavy on lies, misinformation, and propaganda. And on top of that, this is peddled by Pakistani state agencies. The claims that they have made about attacking and destroying various places, various military installations and facilities, as has been pointed out by my colleagues here this morning, are completely false.
• The claim about the Air Force Station in Sirsa being destroyed, completely false, as you have seen. The claim about the Air Force Station in Surat being destroyed, completely false again, as you have seen. There is a claim that has been made that the S-400 base at Adampur was destroyed, completely false, once again. Claims have been made about large sections of Indian critical infrastructure, power systems, cyber systems, etc., being attacked and destroyed, completely false. I would urge all of you, and all those who watch this, not to be misled by this tissue of lies that is being peddled by the Pakistani State for obvious purposes.
• The second point that I wanted to emphasise is that Pakistan continues with its execrable and wanton campaign of targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, especially in the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. There is also, on its part, a consistent attempt to sow discord between communities in India.
• As I said, there has been a particular focus on its targeting of civilian infrastructure and the population in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. Earlier this morning, Pakistan shelled the town of Rajouri, killing the Additional District Development Commissioner Shri Raj Kumar Thapa, adding to the civilian casualties and the damage in that state. We have also observed overnight damage to property and injuries to civilians in Ferozepur and Jalandhar, among other places.
• Finally, as I said, Pakistani officials also continue to make ludicrous claims about India firing missiles towards Shri Amritsar Sahib. As I said, these lame attempts to divide India are doomed to failure.
• We have also seen in some of the remarks that have been shown on television that the Pakistani Army Spokesman seems to take great joy at the fact that the Indian public should criticize the Government of India with regard to various issues. It may be a surprise to Pakistan to see citizens criticizing their own government. That is the hallmark of an open and functioning democracy. Pakistan's unfamiliarity with that, again, should not be surprising.
• And finally, there is this yet again completely ludicrous claim that Indian missiles have hit Afghanistan. Totally frivolous allegation. And I only want to point out that Afghan people don't need to be reminded about which country it is, that has on multiple occasions, in just the last one and a half years, targeted civilian populations and civilian infrastructure in Afghanistan.

Indian Army says it launched a coordinated fire assault on terrorist launchpads on the night of 8-9 May, "pulverizing and razing them to cinders".

"Pulverizes Terrorist Launchpads: As a response to Pakistan's misadventures of attempted drone strikes on the night of 08 and 09 May 2025 in multiple cities of Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, the Indian Army conducted a coordinated fire assault on terrorist launchpads, pulverizing & razing them to cinders. The terrorist launchpads, located close to the Line of Control, were a hub for planning and executing terror attacks against Indian civilians and security forces in the past. The Indian Army's swift and decisive action has dealt a significant blow to terrorist infrastructure and capabilities," the Indian Army said in a post on X today.

Panic gripped Srinagar for the second time on Saturday after residents reported hearing a series of loud explosions, just hours after a "missile-like object" crashed into Dal Lake, the city’s iconic tourist destination. Eyewitnesses described hearing a bang from the heart of the lake following the impact. Security forces swiftly cordoned off the area, and officials confirmed that debris from what they termed a "missile-like object" has been recovered and is under forensic analysis. In a separate incident, another unidentified object was located in Lasjan, on the city’s outskirts. Security agencies have secured the site, and reports suggest additional similar objects may have been found in other parts of Srinagar's periphery.

The discoveries come amid rising military tensions between India and Pakistan, with authorities ramping up security and not ruling out any scenario. Indian armed forces have activated surface-to-air missile defence systems in and around Srinagar in response to what officials described as "heavy aerial engagement" with Pakistan.

Special briefing on day 4 of Operation Sindoor: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, along with Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, in a special briefing on day 4 of Operation Sindoor this morning, said India has defended and reacted in a responsible and measured fashion to Pakistan's continued provocations and escalations.

"I have said on numerous earlier occasions, it is Pakistani actions that have constituted provocations and escalations. In response, India has defended and reacted in a responsible and measured fashion to these provocations and escalations by the Pakistani side. Earlier this morning, we saw a repeat of this escalatory and provocative pattern," Misri said.

"Pak military has been observed to move its troops into forward areas...Indian Armed Forces are fully ready...Pakistan made false narratives of attacking Indian vital installation, drone storage and others," Wing Commander Vyomika Singh said during the briefing.

"In a swift and calibrated response, Indian armed forces carried out a precision strike only at identified military targets... Pakistan has also attempted to execute a continued malicious misinformation campaign, with claims of destruction of the Indian S-400 system, destruction of airfields at Surat and Sirsa... India unequivocally rejects these false claims being spread by Pakistan," the Wing Commander said.

Amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, a senior MEA official, Dammu Ravi, expressed hope that the conflict does not escalate further. Ravi also highlighted the deep interconnection between security, development, and economic growth and noted that industries tend to recoil, avoiding risks in times of conflict. He also emphasised the importance of remaining hopeful and resilient, urging stakeholders to focus on stability.

China urged India and Pakistan to exercise calm and restraint and return to the track of peaceful settlement. A statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry said, "We strongly urge both sides to act in the larger interest of peace and stability, exercise calm and restraint, return to the track of political settlement through peaceful means."

"China is closely following the ongoing situation between India and Pakistan and is deeply concerned about the escalation," the statement added.

The Indian Army has successfully intercepted and brought down a Pakistan Army loitering munition in the Kutch sector of Gujarat, officials said on Saturday. Defence officials said, the Indian Army used L-70 anti-aircraft guns against Pakistan's Army's loitering munitions.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday visited the residence of Raj Kumar Thapa, Additional District Development Commissioner, who was killed in heavy Pakistani shelling. He also visited residential locality in Jammu where an explosion damaged a house and several parked vehicles, officials said. Abdullah visited the explosion site in Rehari and interacted with the affected family.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has spoken with Pakistani Army chief Asim Munir and offered US assistance in starting "constructive talks" with India to avoid future conflicts. Rubio “continued to urge both parties to find ways to de-escalate," a statement issued by Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said. Rubio "offered US assistance in starting constructive talks in order to avoid future conflicts,” the statement said.

Tensions between India and Pakistan increased after the Indian armed forces on Wednesday conducted precision strikes targeting terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that had cross-border linkages.

Indian military on Saturday destroyed Pakistani drones flying over Khasa Cantonment in Amritsar and warned Islamabad against violating India's sovereignty. "Pakistan's blatant escalation with drone strikes and other munitions continues along our western borders," the Indian Army said in a statement. "In one such incident, today at approximately 5 AM, Multiple enemy armed drones were spotted flying over Khasa Cantt, Amritsar. The hostile drones were instantly engaged and destroyed by our air defence units," it said.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday hit out at the IMF for granting a billion dollar loan to Pakistan, saying the global financial organisation was "essentially reimbursing" Islamabad for the ammunition used to devastate border areas of the Union territory. The International Monetary Fund on Friday approved the disbursement of around USD 1 billion to Pakistan under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).

"I'm not sure how the 'International Community' thinks the current tension in the subcontinent will be de-escalated when the IMF essentially reimburses Pakistan for all the ordnance it is using to devastate Poonch, Rajouri, Uri, Tangdhar & so many other places," Abdullah said in a post on X.

At least five people, including ADC Rajouri Raj Kumar Thapa and a two-year-old child, were killed in heavy Pakistani shelling across Rajouri, Poonch, and Jammu districts. Raj Kumar Thapa and his staff were hit at his residence. Thappa later died at GMC Rajouri. A two-year-old boy, a 35-year-old man, a woman in Poonch, and a man in Jammu's RS Pura also died. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with Espen Barth Eide, the Foreign Minister of Norway and discussed India's response to counter terrorism. In a post on X, Jaishankar said, "Spoke with FM Espen Barth Eide of Norway. Discussed India's targeted and measured response to counter terrorism."

Indian forces destroyed several Pakistani military posts and a terrorist launchpad, defence sources confirmed. The launchpad, used for tube-launched drones, was among the key targets.

Pakistan continued overnight shelling across the Line of Control (LoC), prompting a blackout in parts of Kupwara. The shelling also claimed the lives of ADC Rajouri Raj Kumar Thappa and two civilians.

A senior officer and two civilians, including a minor, were killed in Pakistani shelling in Rajouri. Additional District Development Commissioner Raj Kumar Thapa died after a shell hit his residence late Friday night. He was critically injured and died before reaching GMC Rajouri. Two more victims, a 2-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man from Bihar, died due to Pakistan's shelling.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condoled Thapa's death. He said, "Devastating news from Rajouri. We have lost a dedicated officer of the J&K Administration Services. Just yesterday he was accompanying the Deputy CM around the district & attended the online meeting I chaired."

The G7 counties on Saturday in a joint statement condemned the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. In the statement, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, US and the European Union called for restraint on both sides of the border. "We, the G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and the High Representative of the European Union, strongly condemn the egregious terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 and urge maximum restraint from both India and Pakistan. We call for immediate de-escalation and encourage both countries to engage in direct dialogue towards a peaceful outcome. Multiple blasts were heard in Srinagar city early Saturday morning, hours after the Indian military thwarted drone attacks by Pakistan on several installations, including the airport, late last night. According to officials, the blasts were heard near vital installations, including the airport. As soon as the blasts were heard, sirens went off in the city. Pakistan early Saturday claimed that its three airbases were targeted by Indian missiles and drones. Pakistan military spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry told a hurriedly called press conference in Islamabad at around 4 am that Nur Khan (Chaklala, Rawalpindi), Murid (Chakwal) and Rafiqui (Shorkot in Jhang district) airbases of Pakistan Air Force were targeted. "But all assets of the Air Force remain safe," he claimed. India has fired air-to-surface missiles with its jets, he claimed. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Friday approved the immediate disbursement of about USD 1 billion to Pakistan under the ongoing Extended Fund Faci­li­ty. In a statement, the Washington-based global lender said its Executive Board concluded the initial review of Pakistan's economic reform programme under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) arrangement.

"This decision allows for an immediate disbursement of around USD 1 billion (SDR 760 million), bringing total disbursements under the arrangement to about USD 2.1 billion (SDR 1.52 billion)," the agency said. In addition, the IMF Executive Board approved the authorities' request for an arrangement under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF), with access of about USD 1.4 billion (SDR 1 billion). The IMF said in a statement that Pakistan's 37-month EFF was approved on September 25, 2024, and "aims to build resilience and enable sustainable growth", with priorities including entrenching macroeconomic sustainability.
