Chennai: A tripartite meeting chaired by Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare and Skill Development Minister C V Ganesan brought Samsung management and trade-union representatives together at the Secretariat on Monday. The talks addressed several issues, including wage increases and job security for workers. Briefing reporters afterwards, Minister Ganesan said, “Samsung and the trade unions have reached a mutually acceptable, socially responsible solution on key demands such as pay hikes and employment security.”

An amicable settlement has been reached in the negotiations based on the agreement of both parties that the wage increase will be Rs 9,000 per worker for 2025-26, Rs 4,500 for 2026-2027, and Rs 4,500 for 2027-28. The company has laid off 25 workers. The Labour Department is making efforts to reinstate them.

“While the strike was in progress, the Industry Minister and Labour Welfare Department officials facilitated talks between management and unions, leading to its suspension. We are confident of reaching a fair resolution on the dismissed employees,” Minister CV Ganesan said.

"When the strike was already underway, negotiations were held between both sides under the leadership of the Minister of Industry and Labour Welfare officials regarding their demands, and the strike was ended. A good solution will be found regarding the dismissal of employees," said Minister CV Ganesan.

CITU state president Soundararajan said, "Samsung has come to a point where it has to accept our union through tripartite talks with the minister. They tried to weaken us by creating another organisation. That is not possible. The issue of wage hike has been resolved through this agreement." The Minister has said that steps will be taken to reinstate the laid-off workers. If not, they know what steps should be taken to reinstate them.

The laid-off workers intend that today's discussion about layoffs should not be without discussing the wage hike of most workers. Therefore, only the wage hike was discussed today. It is the responsibility of the Trade Union to reinstate the workers. "We will do it. We can't go to court immediately. Of course, the next round of negotiations will be about reinstating the laid-off workers," he said.
