Bengaluru: On the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, the auspicious festival celebrated during the Hindu month of Vaisakha, Karnataka capital Bengaluru is witnessing a spirited rush for gold, silver, and property purchases, defying sky-high prices and economic headwinds.
The festival is considered one of the most auspicious days for investing in wealth-generating assets, especially gold and real estate.
The word Akshaya means “never diminishing” or “eternal,” and it symbolizes enduring prosperity. Millions across the country observe the day by purchasing bullion mostly gold, silver besides property, believing such acquisitions will bring lifelong success and wealth. Bengaluru is no exception, with gold retailers reporting brisk business and long queues despite gold prices climbing to new highs.
Gold prices, which had remained stable for six days, surged ahead of Akshaya Tritiya due to renewed demand. On April 29, 22-carat gold reached Rs 8,980 per gram and Rs 89,800 per 10 grams, up Rs 400 from the previous day. Meanwhile, 24-carat gold stood at Rs 9,797 per gram and Rs 97,970 for 10 grams—a Rs 440 jump overnight.
Silver prices remained relatively steady, hovering at Rs 1,00,500 per kg in Bengaluru.
Market analysts attribute the surge to international trends, import duties, fluctuations in the rupee against the dollar, and seasonal buying behaviour. Traders also noted that in early March, gold was priced at Rs 7,940 per gram, and has since seen a sharp rise, with the biggest spikes occurring in April due to global uncertainty and festive demand.
Beyond bullion, property sales also received a festive nudge. Builders and developers launched limited-period offers, aligning with the belief that investments made on Akshaya Tritiya bring long-term benefits. The Bengaluru real estate market has seen a noticeable uptick in inquiries and bookings, particularly in mid-income housing segments.
Even amid rising prices and regulatory oversight, the spirit of Akshaya Tritiya remains undiminished. For Bengaluru’s buyers, it’s not just about financial investment—it’s about faith, cultural continuity, and starting anew under a banner of hope and prosperity.
