Hyderabad: Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has made history by not only debuting at the 2025 Met Gala but also for being voted as the Best Dressed Celebrity at the fashion event. The honour, awarded by Vogue in an open poll, saw Diljit beat world fashion icons Zendaya, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj.
Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, Diljit was seen walking the red carpet at this year's Met Gala dressed in a Maharaja-inspired, regal outfit created by famous fashion designer Prabal Gurung. Diljit's look consisted of an ivory sherwani with a traditional turban and ornate jewellery, including a statement necklace, ceremonial sword, and cape. The cape had a profoundly personal touch to it - the cape was painted with a map of Punjab and Gurmukhi script inscriptions, hailing Maharaja Bhupinder Singh and signifying Punjabi heritage at one of the largest fashion events globally.
The appearance earned him universal acclaim, and Diljit found himself at the top of Vogue's fan-voted Best Dressed list. Of 307 red carpet celebrity outfits at the Met Gala, his culturally diverse and stylishly crafted outfit won over the hearts of global fashion lovers.
South Korean artist S Coups of SEVENTEEN took the second position with his contemporary grey suit from Boss, influenced by the classic Korean hanbok jacket. Long-time Met Gala favourite Zendaya came in third with her Louis Vuitton appearance. Rounding out the top five were singer Teyana Taylor in a Ruth E Carter design and Rihanna in a bold Marc Jacobs look.
Some other big names in the top ten were Nicki Minaj, Shakira, Lewis Hamilton, BLACKPINK's Lisa, and Sabrina Carpenter. Surprisingly, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who also made his debut at the 2025 Met Gala, failed to reach the list.
