Interstate Narcotics Racket Busted In MP's Morena; Ganja Worth Rs 6.20 Crore Seized

Morena: Busting an interstate narcotics racket in a joint raid by the teams of Kotawli City and Civil Lines police stations at the National Highway 44 near Savitapura, here on Friday, the police seized a truckload of marijuana worth Rs 6.20 crore.

About 120 sacks of the natcortics weighing nearly 31 quintals were being transported from Maharashtra's Nashik to New Delhi.

Acting on a tip-off, the police intensified their checks on the highway and stopped the truck to inquire about its contents. Upon questioning the driver, police got to know that bran of grains meant for animal feed was being ferried in the truck. Out of suspicion, the police started checking the packets and unearthed the narcotics concealed in them.

Subsequently, the driver, Virendra Yadav of Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur, was arrested for further questioning.

"The massive Ganja haul seized from the truck suggests that the inter-state narcotics racket might be larger than what was being initially thought. We are probing the specific places where the narcotics haul was being transported in the country. This is the biggest anti-narcotics action in Morena so far, as over 3,000 kgs of marijuana have been seized. The rear portion of the vehicle was stuffed with fodder. Upon checking, the team found 120 sacks of narcotics. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested for questioning," Morena SP Sameer Saurabh said.
