2 SOUNDBITE (English) Rodney Harrison, NYPD Chief of Detectives:
"So, since December 13th, we've noticed eight hate crimes that are alarming to us. We're investigating them thoroughly with our Hate Crimes Task Force. The most recent one was the one that occurred in the 7-1 precinct earlier this morning. And once again, it's early on an investigation. But, you know, it's something that's very alarming. We treat them very seriously, and we make sure that our investigators do the -- do their best to do what we can to bring these individuals to justice that commit these crimes."

3 SOUNDBITE (English) Dermot F. Shea, NYPD Commissioner:
"We take every one seriously and whether it's one or eight, I would argue that one is too much. We've seen some that run the gamut from throwing a drink in someone's face. We saw a few -- and Rodney might have mentioned it -- I apologize if he did, but patrol was on the scene; immediately, and made arrests in a couple of the incidents. I think there was two in the last couple of days with female perpetrators placed under arrest for striking somebody, so yeah, they're very concerning."

4 SOUNBDBITE (English) Fausto Pichardo, NYPD Chief of Patrol:
"We took a look. We'd redeploy a lot of our assets and resources through corridors, working hand-in-hand with the different houses of worship and community leaders; as well as elected officials. And we employ our auxiliary police force as part of that strategy. As with any incident, as the commissioner stated the past couple of days, our patrol officers immediately made arrests in a couple of those incidents. But we continue to be vigilant and expect the public to help us out in that endeavor."

5 SOUNDBITE (English) Rodney Harrison, NYPD Chief of Detectives:
"A little bit after midnight, we had three females between the ages of 22 to 31 that were slapped in the face by another female who was later apprehended by patrol. This individual was charged with harassment in the first degree, which is a hate crime. During the interrogation, she made statements that she commit this crime because she thought that they were, that they were Jewish."
